This strategy is called claustral founding, from the same root as “cloister,” and it is used by the three largest ant subfamilies, which together account for roughly 80 percent of all ant species. A founding queen’s body is purpose-built for this. A semi-claustral queen: do offer food
If your species is semi-claustral, the opposite is true: she does need feeding during founding. Offer small amounts of appropriate food, such as a tiny pre-killed feeder insect for protein and a little sugar water, and remove leftovers before they spoil. Once the first workers arrive
The moment the nanitics emerge, you switch to feeding the colony rather than the queen.
